IronGnat AH-782A by Artraccoon IronGnat AH-782A by Artraccoon
Milieu: Axis universe

The AH-782A is a single pilot operated mid-tech attack helicopter specialising in the "mech hunting" role. It's main weapon is a 5cm. rotary cannon( some models replace this with HELs or plasers) and the craft has four hardpoints for missiles, rockets, gunpods, or dispensers. It can also perform a forward observer role and designate targets for other aircraft or artillery with either it's mast or front mounted sensor/aiming systems. . Used in places or by governments that cannot support or afford G-coil equipment. This does not diminish it's lethality and is in some cases perfered over a G-coil vehicle due to it's low energy signature and ease of maintainace.

Design notes: The idea was to come up with a Mech/Tank hunting helicopter, and with the ol' Russian "Hind" and the JGSDF attack helios from "Ghost in the Shell" as clear influances. This beast would do pretty well in the Battletech verse I think. The background is a bit of a cowboy job, but it will do until I get a better one worked out.

I reeeeeallllly like this design. It's stumpy and cute and utilitarian and heavily armed and badass... it's a grumpy muddafugga! I gotta say though, that gatling gun seems implausible.

As for the 5cm Gat, it doesn't use a conventional gun mechanism, but uses a variation of the electrically fired "hellstorm" system upscaled.

Yeah, but just because it's electrically fired doesn't mean it doesn't have recoil... and I dunno, the barrel is so big and long that it just looks like the chopper would be hopelessly nose-heavy.

Aw, who am I kidding? This is sci-fi. Why am I being such a nitpicker? Sorry. :-|

I was wondering if I could use this helicopter design for a boss in a game I am working on, Bloodcrusher II.

You would, of course, be credited for the design.

I always like the idea of 'copters, though in old Battletech they were pretty crippled with how often they took rotor hits and how terminal that was. ;)
